How are atomic spectra used?

I hope you mean Atomic Absorption or Atomic Emission spectra: if so, they are used to identify and quantify the elements present in a sample.
The spectra consist of a series of lines at different wavelengths, each corresponding to an energy gap between energy levels in the atom, so they are a unique 'fingerprint' that can identify an element.

Common uses include measuring the different metals present in alloys and the amounts, measuring levels of sodium or potassium ions in blood, etc.
