The charges of the other transition elements can always be found in ionic compounds using the number of molecules of the other ion. For example, in `Fe_2 O_3` The charge of iron is 3+ because the charges of each ion in the ion must total in zero. Oxygen's charge is 2-, so the least common multiple is six, so (`3` `xx2^-` `= 6^-`).
And since (`2` `xx3^+` `= 6^+`), and (`6^+` `xx6^-` `= 0`), the charge is neutral(0). In this way the charge of individual elements in binary ionic compounds can be found by using the number of the other atom within the compound.
