Strain is a force tending to pull or stretch something to an extreme or damaging degree.
When we use strain to talk about the earth, we usually refer to plate movements within the globe. Strain is also used to refer to types of plate movements, or anything that causes stress on the crust.
Types of strain could include, but are not limited to:
- Compression
- Tension
- Folding
- Fault or Mountain Range formation
