What is the equation to find slope?

For two points ( $X_{1}, Y_{1}$ $X_1,Y_1$ ) and ( $X_{2}, Y_{2}$ $X_2,Y_2$ ), the slope of its line equals:

slope = $\frac{rise}{run} = \frac{Y_{2} - Y_{1}}{X_{2} - X_{1}}$ $"rise"/"run" = (Y_2 - Y_1)/(X_2-X_1$

Example:

The line connected between (1,1) and (5,2) is:

Slope = $\frac{2 - 1}{5 - 1} = \frac{1}{4}$ $(2 - 1)/(5 - 1) = 1/4$
