Generally, chemical reactions that produce heat are called exothermic reactions.

Explanation:

These reactions release heat into the surrounding space, thus when you put your hand near one such reaction, you can feel the heat being produced.

The opposite (reactions that absorb heat) would be called endothermic reactions, and when you place your hand on the container of this reaction, you can feel that the container becomes cold.
