Given $y = 2 x - 5$ $y=2x-5$

Set $y = 0$ $y=0$ then solve for the abscissa

$y = 2 x - 5$ $y=2x-5$
$0 = 2 x - 5$ $0=2x-5$
$2 x = 5$ $2x=5$
$x = \frac{5}{2}$ $x=5/2$

We now have the point $(\frac{5}{2}, 0)$ $(5/2, 0)$

Set now $x = 0$ $x=0$ then solve for the ordinate

$y = 2 x - 5$ $y=2x-5$
$y = 2 (0) - 5$ $y=2(0)-5$

$y = - 5$ $y=-5$
