Explanation:
I know in humans at least, there is no such gene. But in sharks and other animals, I know that at times due to temperature and geographic changes the organism can switch to produce asexually.
I don't think that it's due to a 'on and off' gene, but rather chemicals and hormones being released to tell the animal's cells to start secreting the necessary products for whatever type of reproduction the animal sees necessary for the time.
