I don't think normal rain has effects.
It is acid rain that has effects on metals, organisms etc.
Acid rain is formed when sulfur containing fuels are burnt. When sulfur is released into the atmosphere, it reacts with oxygen and water, which finally forms sulfurous and sulfuric acid. These are very Strong and harmful acids, making the rain acidic (pH below 5.6).
The other one is, nitrogen monoxide, as well as `NO_2`, `NO_3, NO_4`. This is from chemical industries e.g. fertiliser production.
-The effects are they corrode metals,which damage buildings, bridges.
- It dissolves rocks, over time. Especially calcium-based minerals such as marble and limestone are more affected.
-It acidifys lakes and oceans, which kills fishes and other organisms.
