Why did England passed the Stamp Act in 1765?

The English government was is tough shape monetarily.

Explanation:

England and France had been either feuding or fighting wars against one another for 100 years. This created a heavy drain on the British treasury and an infusion on money was needed. The stamp act was put in place to create a new source of income. But the stamp act applied only to the American colonies and not to the British Isles. This, of course, inflamed the colonists.
