Convert both into improper fractions.

#5 9/10 = (5(10) + 9)/10 = 59/10#

#2 5/8 = (2(8) + 5)/8 = 21/8#

So the expression becomes

#59/10 + 21/8#

Multiply fractions by a common factor to get the same denominator:
