Explanation:

Together, phospholipids form a very versatile barrier (lipid bilayer) which except from protecting the cell from potential harmful substances it also keeps the internals of the cell from spilling and causing cell lesion (destruction). The lipid bilayer also houses proteins which help bring into the cell useful elements and substances, communicate with other cells, adhere to other cells etc. It also helps to keep the nucleus housing the valuable genetic material safe.
