"At constant Temperature, Volume of a fixed mass of a gas is inversely proportional to the pressure applied to it." _Statement.

Explanation:

HISTORY:

In 1662, Robert Boyle gave the relationship b/w pressure and volume of fixed mass of a gas at constant temperature.

MATHEMATICALLY:

#Vprop1/P# (at constt. temperature)

Changing #prop# into "=" sign

#V=Kxx1/P# (where k is the proportionality constant)
#V=K/P#
By cross multiplication
#PV=K#

In other words;

"The product of Pressure and Volume for a fixed mass of a gas remains constant at constant temperature."

Now, Let a gas of initial volume #V_1# be under a Pressure #P_1# . If the pressure is increased to #P_2# the Volume decreases to #V_2#.

This concludes #V_prop1/P#
