Step 1, Methylation of 2-(4-nitrophenyl)ethylamine
- Deactivation of the amine group from polyalkylation by conversion to an amide
- Alkylation with methyl iodide
- Removal of the amide group
Step 2. Synthesis of Dofetilide
- Alkylation with 2-chloroethyl 4-sulfonamidophenyl ether
- Catalytic hydrogenation of nitro group to an amine
- Conversion of the amine to a methanesulfonamide
