Hydrogen is a unique element and has some unique chemical properties. Hydrogen needs an extra electron to achieve stable electron arrangement like Helium. It can gain an electron (like halogens) and form negatively charged anion (H-). Like, Alkali metals, it also can lose electron and forms a positive ion (H+).
It can form both Ionic compounds and covalent compounds.
