The balanced equation of the reaction for the preparation of ethyne (C_2H_2) by the action of water on CaC_2 is as follows.

CaC_2+H_2O->=Ca(OH)_2+C_2H_2

As per above equation 1 mol C_2H_2 is produced from 1 mol CaC_2.

Molar mass of CaC_2=(40+2*12)=64g/"mol"

The given amount of CaC_2=20g=20/64mol=5/16mol.

So the amount of ethyne C_2H_2 produced =5/16mol.
The molar mass of ethyne C_2H_2=2xx12+2xx1=26g/"mol".

So the mass of ethyne C_2H_2 produced

=5/16molxx26g/"mol"=8.125g.
