The molecular formula is always a whole number of the empirical formula...........

And thus molecular formula=n×empirical formula

And so the given molecular mass is 26gmol1.

And so 26gmol1=n×(12.0g+×1g)

Clearly, n=2, and the molecular formula is C2H2, which is good because of course we know that acetylene=HCCH, i.e. two degrees of unsaturation.
