Explanation:

It has to be a number greater than 1 and less than 10 times a power of ten. In this example we had to move the decimal point 5 places to the left so to have a number between 1 and 10. In other words we had to multiply the number by 10^-5. So now in order to counteract this operation we multiply by 10^5.
314159=314159 times 10^-5 times 10^5=3.14159 times 10^5
