Explanation:

As the fractions have the same denominator we do not need to change much. Why not split the calculation into 2 parts.

Part 1 for the whole numbers.
Part 2 for the fraction number parts

So we have (24+42)+(11+9)/16

Giving 66+ 20/16" " ->" " 66+1 + 4/16

But 4/16 = (4-:4)/(16-:4) = 1/4 giving

67 1/4
