It doesn't factorise but it can still be solved, for example : By completing the square.

Explanation:

So let's complete the square.

therefore x^2+4x-3 = (x+2)^2-4-3=0
therefore (x+2)^2-7=0

Now lets solve:

(x+2)^2-7=0
(x+2)^2=7
x+2=+-sqrt(7)
x=-2+-sqrt(7)

Therefore X has been solved

x=-2+sqrt(7) or x=-2-sqrt(7)
