How do you graph x > y + 5?

Problem: Graph x > y+5

Get y on the left side.

-y > -x+5

Multiply both sides by -1. This will reverse the inequality.

y < x-5

Temporarily change the inequality to an equality. Determine two points on the line.

If x=0; y=-5
Point (0,-5)

If x=5; y=0
Point (5,0)

Graph y < x-5.

Plot the points and draw a dashed line through the points to show that the line is not part of the inequality. Then shade in the area below the line.
