This demonstrates the equality $1 - sin x = cos x$ $1 - sinx = cosx$

The sine function is cyclic, and will move between 0 and +/-1 in one full cycle. Translating it by one unit makes it the same as a cosine function.

In this case, it will start at 1 instead of 0, decrease through 0 to -1 and then return through 0 to +1 again.
