This is simply a hidden quadratic

You must realize that moving the $-5z$ would make a quadratic equation

So we have $2z^2 + 5z - 3$

Now we just do the quadratic formula

$(-5 +- sqrt(25 - 4*2*-3))/4$

$(-5 +- sqrt(49)) / 4$

$(-5 +- 7 ) / 4$

So we have either z = 1/2 or z = -3
