$y = 1/32$ or $y = 32$

If this problem is $3/(4y) = 24$ then you do the following to solve:

Multiply each side of the equation by $4y$ :

$(4y*3)/(4y) = 24 * 4y$

$3 = 96y$

Now divide each side of the equation by 96:

$3/96 = (96y)/96$

$1/32 = y$

However if this problem is #(3/4)y = 24 then you do the following to solve;

Multiply each side of the equation by $4/3$ :

$(4/3)(3/4)y = (4/3)*24$

$(12/12)y = 96/3$

$1y = 32$

$y = 32$
