Here's how I did it:

#31 = -1/6n#

Multiply both sides by #-6#:
#31 color(red)(* -6) = -1/6 color(red)(*-6)n#

#-186 = cancel(-)1/cancel(6) * cancel(-6)n#

Rewrite neatly:
#-186 = n#

#n = -186#
