I got $f=1.4$

I would multiply both sides by $10$ to get:

$10*(-8.4)=10*(-6f)$

$-84=-60f$

rearrange:

$f=(-84)/(-60)=84/60$

divide:

So that $f=1.4$

To check your solution let us substitute this value of $f$ into the original:

$-8.4=-6*color(red)(1.4)$

$-8.4=-8.4$ ok
