How do you solve $x^2 - 5x - 6 = 0$ ?

We factor by finding numbers that multiply to $-6$ and add to $-5$ , of course $-6$ and $1$ so $0=x^2-5x-6=(x-6)(x+1)$ so $x=6$ or $x=-1.$
