The solutions are

x^2+5x–6=0

We can Split the Middle Term of this expression to factorise it and thereby find solutions.

In this technique, if we have to factorise an expression like ax^2 + bx+ c, we need to think of 2 numbers such that:

N_1*N_2 = a*c = 1*-6 = -6

and

N_1 +N_2 = b = 5

After trying out a few numbers we get :

N_1 = -1 and N_2 =6

6*-1 = -6, and 6+(-1)= 5

x^2+5x–6= x^2+6x-1x–6

x(x+6)-1(x+6)=0

(x+6) is a common factor to each of the terms

We now equate factors to zero:

x+6=0, color(green)(x=-6

x-1=0, color(green)(x=1
