With addition and subtraction you will have to get the 10-powers the same.

You can write $1.5 \cdot 10^{5} = 15 \cdot 10^{4}$ $1.5*10^5=15*10^4$

$15 \cdot 10^{4} - 8 \cdot 10^{4} = (15 - 8) \cdot 10^{4} = 7 \cdot 10^{4}$ $15*10^4-8*10^4=(15-8)*10^4=7*10^4$

Since the power is positive we move the dec.point 4 to the right:

$= 70000$ $=70000$
