11/20=0.55

Explanation:

As the denominator (i.e. 20) in 11/20 has only 2 and 5 as prime factors, 20=2xx2xx5, we can easily convert denominator as a power of 10, by multiplying it by 5.

Hence 11/20=(11xx5)/(20xx5)

= 55/100=(50+5)/100

= 50/100+5/100

= 5/10+5/100 i.e. 5 one-tenths and 5 one-hundredths

This is nothing but 0.55
