First of all, what is 1 percent?

Well, one percent is the same as 0.01 .

It simply means 1 part out of 100. That is 100 symmetrical or equal parts.

In other words, if you get a sheet of paper and divide it into 100 equal parts then take one of those parts, you have 1 percent.

"Percent" in a sense means per hundred because the word "cent" actually means a hundred in latin.

Now, if one percent is 0.01 , ten percent is going to be 0.10 . You need ten 0.01's to make 0.10. If you follow the logic below, you will understand why...

0.01 + 0.01 = 0.02

0.01 + 0.01 + 0.01 = 0.03

0.01 + 0.01 + 0.01 + 0.01 = 0.04

...

0.01 + 0.01 + 0.01 + 0.01 + 0.01 + 0.01 + 0.01 + 0.01 + 0.01 = 0.09

0.01 + 0.01 + 0.01 + 0.01 + 0.01 + 0.01 + 0.01 + 0.01 + 0.01 + 0.01 = 0.10

etc... etc...

0.01 x 10 = 0.10

Another way to write ten percent is 1/10. This is because ten percent is in fact 10/100. It takes 10 x 10 percent to make 100%.

10 x 10% = 100%

10 is one tenth of 100, that is why ten percent can also be written as 1/10.

Now, if 1/10 is ten percent, what is 9/10?

Well, 9/10 is simply 9 x 1/10. It's 9 times 10 percent.
9 times ten percent is 90%.

Which means that:

9/10 = 90%

This is your answer.
