The solubility of gas in a liquid depends primarily on the (a) Temperature of the liquid (b) nature of the gas. The gases are more soluble in water at lower temperature, as the temperature of the liquid increases gases become lesser soluble in water.
(b) Polar gases are more soluble in polar solvents, non polar solvents dissolves non polar gases. Ammonia is a polar gas, it dissolves in polar solvent like water. Non polar gases like methane strongly dissolves in non polar solvents like benzene.
