How does the inheritance of acquired characteristics differ from natural selection?
1 Answer
Hi,
Acquired characteristics can't be given from the parent generation to their childs, because it is not written in the genome.
For example, your kids won't born with your scars or your suntan, because those characteristics are not scheduled by the genome.
The natural selection is the selection of characteristics driven by the genome by predation, sickness, competition that gives an selective advantage or a disadvantage to the individuals who got them.
For example, you don't see fluorescent mice in the nature, because they would get killed immediately by predators, but you see browns or dark, that are difficult to see in the dirt, because they survive better than the others, it's the consequence of natural selection :)
Have a good day :)
