Increasing (with slope #5/9#)

#f(x) = (x^2-6x-12)/(x+2) = ((x^2+2x)-(8x+16)+4)/(x+2) = x-8+4/(x+2)#

So:

#f'(x) = 1-4/(x+2)^2#

and:

#f'(1) = 1 - 4/(1+2)^2 = 1 - 4/9 = 5/9 > 0#

So #f(x)# is increasing at #x=1#
