What will happen , assuming that the fluid is completely static, is that the object will remain fixed at every position in the fluid. If you placed it 5 meters down in the tank, it would stay at exactly the same height.
A good example of this happening is a plastic bag filled with water. If you put this in a swimming pool or a tub of water, the bag will just hover in place. This is because the buoyant force equals the gravitational force.
