Scientific calculators usually have an [ee], [EE], or an [EXP] button, in which you enter the first part, 2.56, then press the exponent button and enter the exponent. Your calculator will show something like 2.56E9, and when you press [=], it will show the expanded form, unless it has been set to scientific notation mode.
