The formula mass of Ca(NO_3)_2 is 164.09*g*mol^-1.

Explanation:

So how did we get that mass?

Well, in each formula units of "calcium nitrate" there is one atom of calcium, 2 atoms of nitrogen, and 6 atoms of oxygen. If I take the atomic masses (from where?) and sum them appropriately:

"Formula mass of calcium nitrate"

=(40.1+2xx14.01+6xx15.999)*g*mol^-1

=??*g*mol^-1. Sum them up and waddya get?

Do you have to remember these numbers?
