When given an equation of the form, #y = ax^2 + bx +c#, the equation of the axis of symmetry line is:

#x = -b/(2a)#

This is, also, h; the x coordinate of the vertex:

#h = -b/(2a)#

The y coordinate of the vertex, k, is the value of the function evaluated at h:

#k = y(h)#

For the given equation, #a = -2, b = 4 and c = -5#

The equation of the axis of symmetry is:
