The outermost layer of a star which is responsible for the radiation of light is called as Photosphere of that particular star.

It is Greek origin which specifies,

=> PHOTOS=LIGHT
 =>SPHERE=SHAPE OF THE STAR.

It is usually refereed to as the "surface of the sun" which is the first layer of the sun.

Temperature= 5773.15 K or 5500 C
It is the coldest region of the sun. It is even colder than the atmosphere of the sun i.e. Stellar atmosphere.

Mass= 23.8% of the total mass of the sun.
Element content= Oxygen, Carbon, Neon and Iron are abundant.
