At the opencast mining they first remove the topsoil with excavators and dump it nearby .They then drill holes in the rock formation below the soil, fill it with dynamite blast the rock to form smaller rocks and sand, they then remove this “overburden ” to expose the ore (Chrome, Iron, Copper etc.)

After the ore has been removed (by blasting with dynamite), they first “Backfill” the hole with the overburden then cover it with the topsoil that was removed in the beginning. After the hole has been covered, they sow different types of grass seeds to get the place back to it’s natural field conditions. With other landfills they use household garbage and also cover it with topsoil.
