Question #53f80

2 Answers

225 adults

700 children

Explanation:

a = number of adults
c = number of children

{(a+c=925),(8a+6c=6000):}

Multiplying the first equation by 8:

{(8a+8c=7400),(8a+6c=6000):}

Subtracting:

2c=1400

c=1400/2=700

a=925-700=225

The way to deal with this kind of question is to ask two questions:
- How much if everything was sold at the low price?
- What's the difference between low and high?

Explanation:

If all tickets were sold to children, she would get:
925*$6=$5550

The difference is $6000-$5550=$450

The difference between an adult and a child's ticket is $2

So she must have sold ($450)/($2)=225 tickets to adults.

Which leaves 925-225=700 tickets for children

Check : 225*8+700*6=6000 Check!
