What are the 3 types of RNA?
1 Answer
There are many types of RNA but the three major types are mRNA, tRNA, and rRNA.
Explanation:
The functions of these three revolves around the Central Dogma of Molecular Biology.
mRNA - messengerRNA
mRNAs serves as the template from which the amino acid sequence is transcribed (Transcription). It is like the code for the amino acid sequence. This amino acid sequence will then be used for the synthesis of proteins (translation).
tRNA - transferRNA
tRNAs bring the amino acid to the ribosome during transcription. The amino acid that the tRNA will bring depends on the sequence in the mRNA (see genetic code chart).
rRNA - ribosomalRNA
rRNAs constitutes most of the ribosomal material. the ribosome is the machinery to translate the amino acid sequence made (from transcription) into a protein.
