To put it simply, they are different in causative agents.
Explanation:
HIV is the Human Immunodeficiency Virus, which is part of the genus Lentivirus and is responsible for the condition called AIDS, wherein the body can not protect itself from seeminly harmless infectons.
In contrast, cold viruses are mostly rhinoviruses and sometimes, less pathogenic strains of Coronavirus.
