Explanation:

Mount Everest is the highest point above sea level, i.e. tallest in altitude.

But the tallest mountain measured from bottom to top is actually Mauna Kea in the Pacific Ocean. It measures 10 210 meters (USGS) from bottom to top which is nearly 2 kilometres taller than Everest!

It is only about 4km above sea level but extends a further 6km below the ocean! So it is quite huge.
