They both have different functions. They also differ structurally.
Explanation:
When the food passes through the small intestine, there are villi that line the small intestine and they absorb the nutrients from the food which is then passed on to the bloodstream to be used by the body.
The remaining bits of food passes to the large intestine and it's function is to absorb the water from the food
