The valves actually resist the backflow of either oxygenated or deoxygenated blood from a certain chamber of heart to any other.
Actually, there are in total 4 valves:
- 2 atrio-ventricular valves (tricuspid & bicuspid), and
- 2 others (aortic valve & pulmonary valve).
