Real images are formed in front of the mirror - however in lenses it is behind the lens.
Explanation:
In both cases, the image is formed by the convergence of actual light rays.
Virtual images are created behind a mirror or in front of a lens, both of which correspond to our brain constructing an imaginary image originating from the apparent source of the light ray (not the true source.)
