The answer is -52

Explanation:

You solve this by moving everything but the x over to the right side of the equal sign.

First lets move the #-2/3# over by adding it to the -18. Remember that we have to do the "opposite" of what is happening to the term we want to solve for when we move a value over (since the #2/3# is being subtracted from the x, we have to add it to both sides to get rid of it on the left and add it to the -18).

This should give you #1/3#x = -17.3333

Next we have to multiply both sides by 3 so that we cancel out the #1/3# on the side with the x.

Since the #1/3# was being multiplied to the x we had to divide by #1/3# on both sides (which is the same thing as multiplying by 3).

This leaves you with x = -52

I hope this was helpful!

Retain term having #x# on the LHS and move remains terms to RHS of the equation.

#1/3 x -2/3=-18#
#=>1/3 x=-18+2/3#
Multiply both sides with #3#
#=>x=-18xx3+2#
#=>x=-54+2#
#=>x=-52#

It is assumed that first term is #1/3 x# and not #1/(3x)#
