6/8 is 0.75. It is 75%

Explanation:

#6/8 = 0.75# by using a calculator or paper and pen calculation

0.75 is 75%.

#0.75# and #75%#.

Explanation:

What I would normally do when I see these types of questions is to simplify the fraction.

The greatest common divisor of #6# and #8# is #2#, so we can do this: #(6-:2)/(8-:2)# which is equal to #3/4#.

Now, we will convert #3/4# to a decimal. We need to find a number that is divisible by #4# and is a number with zeroes at the back etc. #(10, 100, 1000)#

The closest number would be #100# so we will change the denominator of #3/4# into #100#.

#100-:4=25# We will multiply the numerator and denominator by #25#.

#(3xx25)/(4xx25)=75/100#.

#75/100# is the same as #0.75# which is the same as #75%#.

If you can, it is always useful to memorise some of the fraction to decimal conversions. You could get these in an exam. Some of the more common ones are listed in the solution.

Explanation:

#1/8=0.125#

So if you needed #3/8# you would have #3xx0.125#

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
So #1/16 = 1/2xx1/8 = 1/2xx0.125#
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

#1/4 = 0.25#

So #3/4=3xx1/4=3xx0.25#

Also #1/8=1/2xx1/4=1/2xx0.25#

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
#1/2 = 0.5#
These are a good starting point.
