-18-6k=6(1+3k)

First, since the 6 on the right side is multiplying, and to get rid of things, you need to do the opposite, you need to divide both sides by 6:

-3-k=1+3k

Now, just isolate the k's:

-4=4k

And since 4 is multiplying with k on the right side, and you're trying to solve for k, you need to do the opposite, witch is dividing 4:

-1=k

To check a problem like this (and many others) plug the answer you get into the original equation, and when worked out, both sides should equal the same thing.
