Because African Americans would be blamed for many of the country's problems and there was more hate to go around.
Explanation:
The African Americans during the great depression were probably treated worse than good times because the country was in a bad state so people would blame it on them. People were also angry and desperate so to channel that anger they would target African Americans making it worse off then they would be in good times.
